As the end of the year is approaching, Croatian Regions Office would like to present an overview of the activities which have been successfully carried out during the 2008.
In order to prepare Croatian counties and cities for Croatia's membership in the European union and maximize the use of the assets given by EU pre-accesion fund and programs, the Varazdin County Development Agency established the Croatian Regions Office in Brussels in January 2007.
Our regional office, which represents seven Croatian counties, five cities and two development agencies, has three main tasks:
- Informing Croatian regional and local authorities about market trends, EU legislation and reforms, EU politics and events in Brussels and European level.
- Advocacy toward the European Commission and Committee of the Regions, for Croatia and the represented regions, creating partner integration in European associations, organizing seminars about the investment and tourism potential of the counties and partner cities.
- Systematic education of officials in public institutions and national experts, through tailor-made training programmes which include participating in seminars, conferences and workshops as well as on the individual meetings of particular interest
In accordance with the above mentioned, Croatian Regions Office organized, in February 2008, a presentation in co-operation with the Brussels Export company, entitled Croatia - New light on EU horizon, on the Croatian investment potential. Our office had the honour to be deputy leading partner. Also, a decentralized event was held in Rijeka, for which the Office organized two very distinguished lecturers - h ead of Valencian office in Brussels, Mr Juan Manuel Revuelta and Mr Chris Jones, Biobator manager from Leicester University.
To finalize the year of seminars, Croatian Regions Office, together with Flanders Investment and Trade company, organized a seminar on Croatian investment potentials with the individual presentation of Dubrovnik-Neretva county, again including a representative of the European Commission as a speaker on IPA funding. The individual meetings with interested Flemish companies were held afterwards.

During the 2008, Croatian Regions Office organized and carried out training programmes for 45 national experts and acted as intermediary in partner search for several important projects.
