Sisak-Moslavina County won award for project "Path to EU"

Sisak-Moslavina County was among the three prize winners at the competition with entries from 24 European regions.

The project on the topic of “Communicating Europe to the People” was organized by the Assembley of European Regions. All regions were invited to participate. By filling out the set forms of the competition, the regions could have reported their successful projects intended for informing the citizens on the European integration process, understanding EU and the methods for communicating Europe on the regional level. The prize was accepted in Udine, Italy by Ms. Tatjana Puškarić, Head of the Administrative Department for Management of Accession Funds and Subsidies, and head of the prize-winning project “Path to EU”.
Sisak-Moslavina County handled the project "Path to EU " with the funds from the EU’s PHARE 2005 project, agreed by the EC Delegation to Croatia. The project was conducted between December 15, 2006 and August 15, 2007 in seven secondary schools in the county area: Sisak Gymnasium, Comprehensive schools Petrinja, Glina, Topusko, Novska, “Tin Ujević” Kutina, and “Ivan Trnski” Hrvatska Kostajnica. The Okosnica of the project were debates on the topic of EU conducted in secondary schools, held in cooperation with the Gymnasium Sisak Debate Club. Total value of the project was 60.000 Euro. There was a total of 12 debate meetings, six with presentations and six competitive ones. A web page (www.smz.hr/phare_youth) was also put up for the award winning project.
The topics for the presentation and competition debates were: “Croatia should join EU”, “Accession to EU will advance the schooling system and bring higher cultural standards”, “Accession to EU will resolve the unemployment problem”, “By joining the European Union Croatia will have to give up its customs and traditions”, “Accession to EU will improve the economic situation”, and “EU is a bureaucratic monster”. The final debate tournament was held to celebrate the Europe Day and European week on May 5, 2007 in Sisak, on the occasion of EU Bus visiting Sisak. The debate team from secondary school "Ivan Trnski” from Hrvatska Kostajnica on the tournament. The teams competed through the elimination system for the win that brought them a visit to Strasbourg in July of 2007, and a prize package from the EC Delegation, presented to them by Mr. Vincent Degert, Head of EC Delegation. In early June, the secondary school “Ivan Trnski” from Hrvatska Kostajnica also held the “EU Quiz” – a knowledge quiz aimed at increasing the knowledge and understanding of EU integrations and processes.
