Representatives of the ECD visited Karlovac

The representatives of the Delegation of the European Commission David Hudson - Counsellor, Martin Mayer - Political Adviser, Alfons Peters - Task Manager for human rights, minorities, civil society and demining issues, Srebrenka Gudan - Economic and Trade Adviser on 17 June 2008 visited Karlovac. The purpose of the visit was to meet with political and economic representatives of the local community to discuss the economic and social development of the region, as well as Croatia's EU accession from the local perspective. The EC Delegation team met with the mayor of Karlovac, the County Prefect of the Karlovac County, the principal of the Karlovac High School and the director of the County Chamber of Economy. The interlocutors gave an overview of the economic and social development of the city of Karlovac and the county, as well as the major challenges and prospects. The representatives of the EC Delegation used also this opportunity to meet with the Karlovac High school students and to have the "Questions and Answers about the EU" time with them. Moreover, the ECD team also visited a de-mining site in the Municipality of Barilović and had a meeting with the Head of Municipality, representatives of CROMAG and Tornado, a company performing de-mining in the area.
