Elaboration on the Copenhagen criteria

The European Parliament is preparing to elaborate on the Copenhagen criteria, specifically about the fourth criterion -
tightening of the European Union absorption capacity. This fourth criterion has
been formulated already in 1993, however, it has not yet been defined in detail.
By this criterion, along with the other three criteria, the EU integration
capacity becomes a key factor within the EU enlargement strategy for any future
new member states. The criterion would strike a balance between the interests of
the Union and the candidate countries as well as closely observe the integration
capacity of the EU.
