"The Committee of the Regions respects the autonomy of each of its major partners, but, at the same time, we share many of the same objectives and aspirations. By working together, we can undoubtedly achieve more. I am therefore delighted that the associations have agreed on these updated joint action plans which will enable us to work in a more effective and coherent way in future," said the CoR Secretary general.
The action plans envisage cooperation in a number of areas, including:
- Dialogue, communication and visibility
- Sharing expertise to support the work of the CoR and its rapporteurs
- Follow-up of the Treaty protocol on subsidiarity and proportionality
- Promoting trans-European cooperation through the European Grouping on Territorial Cooperation (EGTC)
- Organisation of the Structured Dialogue with EU Commissioners on proposed policy and legislation
- Participation in the Territorial Dialogue, in support of the EU Jobs and Growth Strategy
- Organisation of other joint conferences, seminars and events
The joint action plans have been agreed with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), the Conference of European Regions with Legislative Powers (REGLEG), EUROCITIES, the Assembly of European Regions (AER), the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE), and the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR).
A major regional association, Arco Latino, and national association, the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, have also agreed on joint action plans with the CoR.
