CoR website www.cor.europa.eu gets a new look
06.02.2008, 17:38
In the past year, the CoR website has seen a 33% increase in the number of unique visitors, up to 535,150, with more than 1 million pages viewed. Around two-thirds of EU legislation is implemented by local and regional authorities in Member States. The Committee of the Regions is a consultative body, which was created in 1994 to give representatives of local government a say over the content of these laws. The CoR organises five plenary sessions a year, where its 344 members vote on reports, known as opinions, issued in response to proposed legislation. The European Commission, which initiates EU laws, and the Council of Ministers, which determines the final content of the legislation (usually in tandem with the European Parliament), are obliged to consult the CoR on a wide range of policy areas including the environment, employment and transport.
The Committee of the Regions is unveiling a new-look website on 7 February to coincide with the election of its new President and the start of the second half of its 2006-2010 mandate.
The upgraded website, available in 23 language versions, has been re-designed with a host of additional features aimed at making the site more user-friendly and interactive. The new features include a search facility, photo library, discussion board and voting system. For the first time, at the click of a button, users can choose to print out content in PDF or Word format.
Existing interactive elements including the Lisbon Monitoring Platform and Subsidiarity Monitoring Network are also given a new look.
