The 9th edition of the European Week of Regions
10.10.2011, 17:05
Co-organised by the Commission and the Committee of the Regions, the event brings together over 6000 regional and local partners from over 200 EU regions, and from eight third countries. The event is the first chance to discuss the Commission's proposals on a new approach to EU cohesion policy.
OPEN DAYS 2011 offer a an opportunity for regional partners to join in on the debate on the future of cohesion policy which is now in full swing.
This year's OPEN DAYS could not be more timely, because this is the first opportunity to discuss the legislative package on the future regional policy.
Under the heading "Investing in Europe's future: Regions and cities delivering smart, sustainable and inclusive growth", over 100 seminars will focus on three thematic strands:
Europe 2020: Seminars will showcase and discuss how cohesion policy and regions and cities contribute to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
Better delivery: Debates will focus on how to improve delivery of cohesion policy through, for example the 'Common Strategic Framework' covering all EU funds with territorial impact between 2014 and 2020.
Geography matters: Discussions will focus on integrated territorial strategies for regions, cities, cross-border and macro-regional areas.
This year Croatian Regions Office takes part in partnership called C.R.E.A.T.E Cities and Regions Efficiently Acting Together in Europe.
The cities of Potenza, Venice, Warsaw, Grenoble Alpes Métropole, Krapinsko-Zagrorska County and the regions of Hannover, Swietokrzskie, Värmland, Lubuskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Nitra have chosen the Open Days 2011 as the perfect stage to present their opinions on the future of cohesion policy and their best practice reached in this field. In relation to this we organise a conference called "Is there a future for multilevel Cohesion Policy?" on 10 October in Representation office of lower Saxony in Brussels, from 14h30 till 17h00.
With its recently adopted 5th Report on Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion, the European Commission shows that the EU's cohesion policy has made a significant contribution to growth and prosperity and promoting balanced development across the Union. Nevertheless, in view of the substantial economic and social developments over recent years, the policy now has to address new challenges. This is the starting point of the event, from presenting concrete results of C.R.E.A.T.E's regions and cities reached thanks to EU cohesion policy, to debating new scenarios on. Cohesion policy is much more than a simply financial contribution to growth and jobs. Its added value goes further, engaging local and regional representatives and involving them in the policy design and delivery process.
Local event in Krapina-Zagorje County in Croatia.
Alongside the Brussels seminar "Is there a future for mulitilevel Cohesion policy" organized by C.R.E.A.T.E. partnership, a local event branded "Europe in my region" will be organised in Terme Tuhelj in Krapina-Zagorye County, Croatia.
