European Youth Week 2011
16.05.2011, 12:51
Hundreds of events, from arts and sports to debates and workshops, are going on all over Europe to celebrate the continent's premier youth arena.
Falling within both the European Year of Volunteering and the EU-China Year of Youth, this European Youth Week 2011 from 15-21 May is a key landmark in the EU's ten-year 2020 strategy.
Education, social mobility and youth employment are at the very heart of that strategy and through social and cultural exchange, democratic debate and ‘structured dialogue' - the theme of EYW 2011 - young people themselves can help carve out the future of our continent.
Euopean Youth Week 2011 (EYW 2011) is the fifth edition of the event, following similar successful events in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2008.
EYW2011 will feature events in Brussels, Antwerp, as well as in 32 other European countires. Antwerp is the third European Youth Capital, following Rotterdam in 2009 and Torino in 2010.
The European Youth Forum, the umbrella organisation of youth councils and youth organisations, awards the title each year to a European city that has distinguished itself in promoting youth empowerment. During 2011, Antwerp will organise activities for and by young people with more than 100 partners.
