This Tuesday, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will discuss the position of regions and cities on key EU issues with Mercedes Bresso, President of the Committee of the Regions and the European Association of Elected Representatives of Mountain Regions (AEM). They will be joined by the Presidents of European associations representing local and regional authorities: Marcelino Iglesias Ricou, President of the Conference of European regions with legislative power (REGLEG); Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR); Giovanni Kessler, President of the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE); Wolfgang Schuster, Vice-President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR); Michèle Sabban, President of the Assembly of European Regions (AER); Claudio Martini, President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR); and Lars Weiss, Vice-President of EUROCITIES.
To flesh out future cooperation with the EU executive in greater detail, CoR President Bresso will then hold bilateral meetings with three Commissioners: On Tuesday, President Bresso will debate the future of cohesion funding with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, and will emphasise the CoR's strong stance on financial regulation and the Europe 2020 strategy in a meeting with Michel Barnier, responsible for Internal Market and Services. On Wednesday, the CoR President will discuss common priorities for the coming years with Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration.
